A fun activity to drill ‘Free time’ vocabulary whilst developing translation skills from Spanish into English. Based on the game ‘One pen One die’ (‘Games for Teaching Primary French’ by Danièle Bourdais and Sue Finnie), where pupils compete to be the first one to finish all the translations.
Here is how to play: in pairs, students take turns to roll the die to decide who goes first. Whoever gets a six starts translating whilst the other person rolls the die to try and steal the pen by getting another six. When they get it, they shout ‘¡Para!’ (Stop!) and ‘steal’ the pen off their partner to start translating. The person who just lost the pen starts rolling it to get number six to steal it again. The winner is the pupil who finishes the translations first. Prompt your students to think of their translation whilst rolling the die so they are always on task! It can also be played online with a virtual die.
The PowerPoint includes two differentiated worksheets on Free Time and an adaptable template too to suit the topic being studied as well as to the students’ needs and level.
